Ernakulam, Kerala, March 29, 2025 – The Anti-Drug Pledge Campaign, spearheaded by the Archdiocesan Committee of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM), was officially inaugurated by His Grace Dr. Joseph Kalathiparambil, Metropolitan Archbishop of Verapoly, during a solemn function held at the Archbishop’s Palace in Ernakulam . During the ceremony, the achbishop lit the lamp of hope and led KCYM leaders in reciting the Anti-Drug Pledge, marking the beginning of this impactful movement.
The event was presided over by KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese President Rajeev Patric. Distinguished dignitaries present during the function included Monsignor Mathew Elanjimattam, Monsignor Mathew Kallingal, Chancellor Fr. Abijin Arakkal, KCYM Director Fr. Raphael Shinoj Aranchery, Latin State Committee Vice President Akshay Alex, and Archdiocesan Secretary Fr. Smijo George, and other key KCYM officials.
During the function, Archbishop Kalathiparambil emphasized the crucial role of Kerala’s youth in leading the fight against substance abuse, urging them to take proactive steps to build a healthier, drug-free society.
Following the archdiocesan inauguration, the campaign extended to unit-level initiatives across various parishes, where thousands of faithful took the Anti-Drug Pledge after Holy Mass. The overwhelming participation underscored the strong commitment of both the youth and the Church in Kerala to combating substance abuse.
The Archdiocesan Committee of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement continues to spearhead efforts towards a drug-free society, reinforcing the vital role of youth in tackling this pressing social issue.
