Pope's Health Shows Stability with Gradual Improvement

Vatican, 10 March, 2025: Pope Francis joined the Spiritual Exercises of the Roman Curia via video link from Gemelli Hospital on Sunday, according to an update from the Holy See Press Office.

The annual Lenten retreat began on Sunday afternoon in the Paul VI Hall, led by Fr. Roberto Pasolini, OFM Cap, the Preacher of the Papal Household. Pope Francis joined the participants spiritually from his hospital room.

Earlier in the day, the Pope received a visit from Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, the Substitute for the Secretariat of State. He also attended Mass with the medical staff and assistants caring for him.

The Pope continued his treatment regimen, including respiratory and motor physiotherapy. Doctors reported that he is following a prescribed diet that now includes solid foods.

His condition remains stable with slight improvements, as outlined in a medical bulletin released on Saturday evening. However, his overall health remains complex, prompting doctors to maintain a cautious outlook.

On Sunday evening, Pope Francis will again transition to non-invasive mechanical ventilation overnight following high-flow oxygen therapy during the day, as part of his treatment plan.

The Holy See confirmed that no medical bulletin was issued on Sunday due to the stability of his condition, with the next update expected on Monday evening.

Earlier on Sunday, the Pope released his Angelus address, expressing gratitude to the doctors and nurses caring for him.

“During my prolonged hospitalisation here,” he said, “I too experience the thoughtfulness of service and the tenderness of care, in particular from the doctors and healthcare workers, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart.”

He also prayed for those around the world suffering from illness, calling caregivers "signs of the Lord's presence."
