Gulbarga Diocese Convenes Meet to Discuss New Pastoral Plan

Gulbarga, March 9, 2025 – A planning session for the Diocesan Pastoral Plan 2025-2030 was held at Sugyan, the Pastoral Centre of Gulbarga Diocese, on March 8, 2025. Organised by Most Rev. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga, the session brought together 67 key participants, including clergy, religious leaders, and lay representatives, to discuss the vision, direction, and implementation of the diocesan plan. Most Rev. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Chairman of the CCBI Pastoral Implementation Committee, and Rev. Fr. Anil Prasad, Coordinator of the KRPP, were among the resource persons guiding the discussions during the meeting.

The session commenced with a prayer led by Fr. Gerald Sagar, followed by a warm welcome address by Fr. Stany Lobo. The inaugural session featured several dignitaries on the dais, including Bishop Robert Miranda, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo, Fr. Anil Prasad, Sr. Gracy, Fr. Maxim SJ, and Mr. Sudeer.

In his introductory address, Bishop Robert Miranda reflected on the diocese’s early years, likening it to a newborn growing in faith and mission. He emphasised that a structured pastoral plan is vital for the diocese’s growth, drawing parallels to Jesus’ ministry and the Pope’s leadership. He underscored the importance of a synodal approach, ensuring that the Church remains collaborative and responsive to God’s will.

In his address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo stated that while he was not a resource person, he strongly advocated for a unified diocesan plan. He reiterated the principle: “Failing to plan is planning to fail,” urging all religious congregations to align with the diocesan vision rather than pursuing independent plans. He stressed that all commissions must integrate their objectives within the diocesan framework, ensuring mission efforts remain rooted in scripture and doctrine.

Fr. Anil Prasad then outlined the key changes in the new pastoral plan compared to previous versions. He reassured participants that the new approach was simplified and structured for effective implementation, adding that challenges often hold the potential for transformation and renewal.

Following these inputs, commission representatives, secretaries, and teams engaged in group discussions to formulate their respective strategies. The commissions on Women, Faith Formation, Basic Ecclesiastical Community, and Evangelisation later presented their insights and proposals.

With the participation of clergy, religious, and lay leaders, the session marked a collaborative milestone in shaping the diocese’s future mission and ministry. The outcomes will guide the Diocese of Gulbarga in its evangelisation, community building, and faith formation efforts from 2025 to 2030.
