Khunti, October 24, 2025 — Bishop Vinay Kandulna of Khunti called for urgent and proactive involvement of the Church in addressing bonded labour, human trafficking and unsafe migration, during a workshop for priests, religious and catechists organised by the CCBI Commission for Migrants in the diocese.
He affirmed that “migrants are the presence of Jesus in our midst,” and stressed the responsibility of every parish to support and protect vulnerable migrant families. Around 40 participants from parishes across the diocese took part in the workshop.
The diocese currently has 22 full-fledged parishes along with several mission stations, all of which will implement initiatives to promote safe and responsible migration.
Fr. Jaison Vadassery, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Migrants, urged parishes to establish systems for registering migrants before departure, and informed that Catholic Connect has introduced an in-app registration feature for migrant support.
Mr. Nirmal Gorhana, General Convener of the National Campaign Committee for the Eradication of Bonded Labour, served as the main resource person for the session.
Fr. Bipin Kumar Pani, diocesan director of the commission, noted that the workshop forms part of a wider series of training programmes being conducted across Jharkhand.
