BEC Seminar Highlights Grassroots Renewal And Synodality in Uttar Pradesh

Bareilly, 24 October, 2025 — A Diocesan Seminar on Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) was held on 17 October in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh with priests, religious and lay leaders from multiple parishes gathering to explore how BECs can strengthen synodality through deeper communion, participation and mission at the parish level.

Bishop Selvister Ponnumuthan of Punalur, Chairman of the National BEC Commission of the CCBI, delivered the keynote address, stressing that Basic Ecclesial Communities are vital for renewing the Church at the grassroots, building unity among families and empowering the faithful to actively share responsibility in the Church’s mission.

It was also announced that beginning this year, the Diocese will celebrate Parish BEC Day annually on the third Sunday of November, aligned with the World Day of the Poor — with the first observance set for 16 November 2025.
