Jubilee of Fathers & Husbands Celebrated in the Archdiocese of Goa-Daman

SANTO ESTEVAM, Goa, March 21, 2025: The Diocesan Jubilee of Fathers & Husbands was celebrated in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman with an event on March 19, 2025, at Santo Estevam Church. Organised by the Diocesan Jubilee Committee and the parish community, the event honoured fathers and husbands from the archdiocese on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary.

The celebration commenced with the Holy Eucharist, presided over by His Excellency, Bp Simião Purificação Fernandes, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, along with concelebrants Fr Leo Fernandes, Fr Rosario Oliveira, and Fr Peter Gonsalves.

During his homily, Bishop Simião reflected on the theme "St Joseph: A Model of Hope for Fathers", emphasising St Joseph's virtues of prayer, respect for women, and steadfast hope. He encouraged fathers and husbands to embrace their responsibilities with faith and love, serving as guiding lights for their families. The congregation then joined in a special prayer for all fathers, followed by a symbolic sprinkling of holy water.

Following the Eucharistic celebration, the parishioners of Santo Estevam presented a vibrant cultural programme to honour fathers and husbands. Fr Leo Fernandes delivered an inspiring message, describing fathers as "HERO" – Humility in silence, Example of sacrificial love, Rich in faith, and Offering of love and service. He expressed gratitude to the parish community for their dedication in hosting this significant diocesan event.

The cultural segment featured a variety of performances, including a welcome song by children, a skit on fatherhood, traditional folk songs, a Manddo performance, a puppet show, and humorous acts. A celebratory cake-cutting ceremony was also held, with children presenting handmade cards to their fathers. Emotional testimonies marked the event, with a wife expressing her gratitude by saying, "I am who I am today because of my husband and my father," while a young child touched hearts by declaring, "He is my world and guiding light."

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Moderator of the Parish Pastoral Council, who acknowledged the efforts of all those involved in the organising of the event.

The Diocesan Jubilee of Fathers & Husbands stood as a heartfelt tribute to all fathers from the Archdiocese of Goa-Daman. Through prayer, reflection, and cultural expressions, the occasion highlighted St Joseph as an enduring model for fathers and served as a reminder of their silent yet profound role in shaping lives.
