Five New Priests Ordained for Jhansi Diocese

Jhansi, August 18, 2025 – The Diocese of Jhansi witnessed a historic moment of grace as five deacons – Nelson, Kanchan, Rajashekar, Mahendra, and Romesh – were ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on August 17 by His Lordship Wilfred Moras, in a solemn Eucharistic celebration at St. Jude Shrine, Jhansi.

The liturgy, marked by profound prayer and symbolism, drew family members, friends, clergy, and faithful from across the diocese, who gathered in thanksgiving for the gift of new shepherds to the Church. Central to the ordination rite was the laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration, through which the deacons were configured to Christ the High Priest and entrusted with the ministry of Word, Sacrament, and pastoral care.

In his homily, Bishop Wilfred exhorted the new priests to serve with humility, preach the Gospel with courage, and live as authentic witnesses of Christ’s love. He urged them to remain deeply rooted in prayer and the Eucharist, the very source of priestly life and mission.

Visibly moved, Fr. Nelson, speaking on behalf of his fellow ordinands, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, his family, seminary formators, and the diocesan community for their support along his vocation journey. He pledged faithful and generous service to the people entrusted to his care.

A joyous reception was held, during which the faithful extended their congratulations and prayers to the five newly ordained priests as they embark on their priestly ministry. The occasion stood as a powerful reminder of Christ’s enduring invitation to “pray for labourers in the harvest” (Mt 9:38).

The Diocese of Jhansi has called upon the faithful to continue praying for the newly ordained and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
