Hazaribag, December 17, 2025 — Bishop Anand Jojo of Hazaribag on Tuesday said that the message of Christmas goes beyond religious boundaries and calls on society to uphold love, forgiveness, and human dignity as the foundation for peace and social harmony.
Speaking at an interfaith Christmas gathering attended by representatives of various religious communities, civic organisations, and the media, the Bishop urged people to reject hatred and division, asserting that lasting peace is possible only when mutual respect and compassion shape social and public life. He stressed that religious diversity should be seen as a strength and not as a source of conflict.
Bishop Jojo said that the spirit of Christmas reminds people of their shared responsibility towards one another, particularly the poor and marginalised, and called for collective efforts to promote justice and fraternity.
The programme saw participation from leaders of different faith traditions. Swaroop Chand, representing the Hindu community, Nirmal Jain from the Jain community, Avtar Singh of the Sikh community, and media representative Umesh Pratap spoke on the need for brotherhood, tolerance, and national unity, emphasising common human values.
From the Christian community, Fr. R.C. Chako and Fr. P.J. James reflected on the ethical and spiritual significance of Christmas, highlighting truth, justice, and compassion as universal principles shared across religions.
