Mysore, 16 December 2025: Christmas was celebrated with deep faith and fraternity in the diocese of Mysore as migrant faithful gathered to mark diocesan Migrants’ Day, highlighting the Church’s pastoral concern and solidarity with those living and working away from their native places. The observance brought together migrants from diverse regions, languages, and cultures, affirming their integral place within the diocesan community.
The Christmas Eucharistic celebration and cultural programme were coordinated by Fr. Rathan Almeida, OCD, Secretary of the Diocesan Commission for Migrants, together with Fr. Sebastian Conrad, MSFS, Parish Priest. Their leadership ensured wide participation of migrant communities and fostered an atmosphere of welcome, unity, and belonging
The celebration was enriched by the presence of Fr. Lawrence Ekka of the Port Blair diocese, Fr. Michael Toppo of the Aizawl diocese, Br. Peter Minj, CMSF, and other priests and religious, reflecting the universality of the Church and strengthening bonds of communion between migrants and the local faithful
For many migrants, the celebration became a moment of consolation and joy, offering a sense of home within the wider Church family despite the distance from their own homes and families
The Diocesan Migrants’ Day observance stood as a strong expression of the diocese of Mysore’s commitment to accompany, support, and integrate migrant communities, reaffirming their dignity and value in the life of the Church. The celebration served as a visible witness to unity in diversity and the Church’s mission of inclusiveness and compassion.
