Mysore Diocese Hosts Christmas Celebration for Special Children

Mysore, 17 December 2025: An inclusive Christmas celebration for special children was organised by the Mysore Diocesan Commission for Health and the Specially Abled at St Joseph’s College of Nursing, Bannimantap, bringing together children, families, and the wider community to affirm dignity, inclusion, and belonging.

Bishop Francis Serrao SJ of Mysore, addressing the gathering, stated that every child holds inherent value and dignity, regardless of ability, and that children with special needs and their families embody the true meaning of Christmas through resilience, love, and hope. He emphasised that inclusion is not an act of charity but a responsibility of society. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly, emeritus bishop of Mysore, was also present at the event.

The programme featured performances by special children and participating schools, offering a public platform for children to express their abilities and confidence through music and movement. Estelle D’Souza, Regional Secretary, delivered a message encouraging children to recognise their inner strength and purpose, affirming that every child is unique and valued.

Parents and caregivers described the event as affirming and encouraging, noting the importance of visibility and acceptance for children with special needs. Volunteers and educators highlighted the need for sustained inclusion beyond festive occasions, calling for stronger social support systems.
