Dabra, Gwalior — 19 November 2025 : A one-day seminar on Ecumenism, Inter-Religious Dialogue, and Ecology was held on 18 November 2025 at the Infant Jesus Multipurpose Centre, Dabra, bringing together clergy, religious, and Christian faithful from multiple denominations. The event was jointly organised by the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), CBMP, and CG, with the aim of strengthening unity, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting care for creation.
Bishop Joseph Thykkattil, who served as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the programme and delivered the keynote address. Stressing the relevance of the theme at a time of growing polarisation and environmental degradation, he remarked, “This is very relevant in this context because inter-religious dialogue and ecumenical activities will bring peace in society. And we need a good earth to do all these things.”
Fr. Anthaiah Kondaveetti delivered a comprehensive presentation on Inter-Religious Dialogue in Today’s Context and Ecumenism in the Synodal Context, highlighting the need for collaboration, openness, and shared responsibility across faith communities.
This was followed by Fr. A. Sebastian’s session on the Christian responsibility towards nature, urging participants to recognise ecological care as an essential expression of faith and stewardship.
Sr. Jonita led the regional planning session, guiding the gathering in developing practical action plans for ecological initiatives and inter-religious cooperation within their respective communities.
The event was coordinated by Bishop Joseph Chakkalakkal, with support from Fr. Sanu Alunkal, ensuring smooth execution throughout the day. A large number of priests, sisters, brothers, and lay representatives from various Christian denominations attended, creating a vibrant atmosphere of unity and shared purpose.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Fr. Joseph James, who expressed appreciation to all the speakers, organisers, and participants for their collaborative spirit and active involvement.
The day’s proceedings stood as a significant step towards strengthening ecumenical bonds, deepening inter-faith understanding, and encouraging collective action to protect the environment.
