Karnataka Formators Commit to Building 'Christ-Centred' Leaders by 2033

Bangalore, Nov 19, 2023: Fifty-one early-stage formators from across Karnataka convened at the Subodhana Pastoral Centre in Bangalore from 17–18 November to reflect on their formation ministry and strengthen their shared commitment to preparing future priests and religious. The programme, jointly organised by the CCBI VSCR Commission and the Karnataka Regional VSCR, was inaugurated by Fr. Anil Prasad.

The formators shared their own formation experiences, including memories of fraternity, prayer, guidance from formators, and community life. They also recalled difficult experiences such as public correction, strict disciplinary approaches, and inconsistent accompaniment. These reflections created space for constructive dialogue and renewal in their approach to formation.

Led by Fr. Joye James SJ and Fr. Charles Leon, Executive Secretary of the CCBI VSCR Commission, the sessions addressed emotional maturity, spiritual accompaniment, mentoring skills, and community living. Through spiritual conversation, the participants identified areas for growth, including being grounded in prayer, exercising balanced correction, offering consistent witness, and responding to the real challenges faced by formees.

They stressed the need for communities that encourage openness, attentive listening, responsible growth, and steady prayer. The discussions also highlighted the importance of a missionary approach marked by courage, creativity, compassion, and outreach to those at the margins. Their shared discernment pointed to specific shifts: engaging more deeply with Scripture, being more available to formees in daily life, reading contemporary realities with sensitivity, and building communities oriented to mission.

The gathering, coordinated by Fr. Bonaventure Rodrigues and Sr. Priscilla, concluded with a commitment to work together towards the 2033 CCBI Pastoral Plan, focusing on shaping Christ-centred servants for future Church leadership with clarity, purpose, and renewed dedication.
