Women’s Day Celebration in Kannur Diocese: ‘Mahila Nidhi’ Finance Project Steals the Show

TALIPARAMBA, Kerala, March 10, 2025: The CCBI Commission for Women in the Diocese of Kannur celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 with a grand event at Happiness Square, Taliparamba. The event, marked by enthusiasm and unity, brought together around 500 women from six foranes of the diocese. The celebration featured a grand rally, competitions, key addresses by dignitaries, and the launch of initiatives aimed at empowerment of women.


The event was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Alex Vadakkumthala, Bishop of Kannur, who emphasised the crucial role of women in both the Church and society. Noted social activist, Dr. Bincy Maria, who was the chief guest for the function, inspired the gathering with insights on women's empowerment and social responsibility. Rev. Dr. Clarence Paliath, Vicar General of the diocese, also addressed the audience, highlighting the invaluable contributions of women in family, faith, and community.


A major highlight of the event was the ‘Mahila Nidhi’ Finance Project Mega Bumper Lucky Draw, conducted by the diocesan spiritual director. The initiative successfully raised approximately ₹1.5 lakh to support women’s development programs. Additionally, Rev. Fr. Antony Pius officially released the Year Plan and Pastoral Plan, outlining future initiatives for the welfare of women in the diocese.


To honour and celebrate the achievements of women from the diocese, the event featured competitions and an award ceremony. Rev. Fr. Jacob Jose, Forane Vicar of Taliparamba Forane, distributed prizes to winners of the Logos Quiz, Christmas Season Good Turn, and Fratelli Tutti Quiz. Outstanding women who made significant contributions to society were also recognised as women icons. Various entertainment programs and games added excitement to the gathering.


The celebration also included a grand rally through Taliparamba Town, where women from different backgrounds and organisations marched together, showcasing unity, strength, and solidarity. The rally was a powerful symbol of their collective commitment to gender equality and empowerment.


The event concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees. Church authorities expressed amazement at the CCBI Commission for Women’s ability to successfully manage such a large-scale event.


The organisers of the event extended heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to making the celebration a memorable and meaningful occasion.
