Diphu, Assam, April 27, 2025: The veneration of the Regional Youth Convention Cross of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement’s (ICYM) Northeast Region was held on April 27, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Risen Lord in Diphu, Assam. The event began with representatives of the Northeast Regional Youth Commission (NERYC) handing over the Cross to representatives of the ICYM Diphu Diocese. Following this, the Cross was carried in a solemn procession into the cathedral amidst the uplifting singing of hymns. After the procession, a solemn Holy Mass was celebrated, presided over by Rev. Fr. Tomy Palely, Diocesan Administrator, and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Jonathan Teron, Diocesan Youth Director. Approximately 150 Catholic youth from the diocese participated in the celebration.
In his homily, Fr. Tomy Palely emphasised that those who act with good intentions for the greater glory of God will never falter. He also offered prayers for the success of the upcoming ICYM Northeast Regional Youth Convention (RYC) and for the youth of the diocese. The liturgical service was beautifully enhanced by a vibrant choir and the active participation of the youth, reflecting the strong sense of community and devotion.
Sr. Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh MSMHC, representing the Northeast Regional Youth Commission (NERYC), joined by Ms. Jurika Teronpi and Mr. Jacky Paul Millick, played significant roles in the day’s events.
The event also included a vibrant session of praise and worship, which invigorated the gathering and fostered a spirit of spiritual renewal. This was followed by a solemn period of Eucharistic Adoration, led by Rev. Fr. Jonathan Teron and Sr. Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh, MSMHC. During the adoration, special prayers were offered for the speedy recovery of Mr. Huimingam Jonah, the Regional Youth President of ICYM Northeast Region.
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Jemson Teron, Diocesan Youth President, who expressed his gratitude to Rev. Fr. Tomy Palely and Sr Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh MSMHC for their contributions to the event. He also extended thanks to Bishop Paul Mattekatt, Bishop of Diphu, Fr. Thankachan Joseph, Fr. Thomas Maripurath, and Fr. Dominic for their continued guidance and blessings. Rev. Fr. Jonathan Teron encouraged the youth to be true friends of Jesus and acknowledged their enthusiastic participation, which contributed to the event’s success.
