Fr. Manuel Gomes' New Book Celebrates Mandur's Christian Roots

Goa, 28 April, 2025 - Renowned Konkani writer and senior diocesan priest, Fr. Manuel Gomes, marked his 45th anniversary of priesthood with the release of his latest book, Xant Amcho Mandurcho Ganv on 27 April. The launch followed a solemn Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Amparo Church, Mandur.

Carmelite Brother and noted writer, Br. Malvino Alfonso, officially released the book in the presence of Clarina Braganza, Moderator of the Parish Pastoral Council, alongside parishioners and well-wishers.

Br. Alfonso praised Fr. Gomes’ enduring efforts to document Goa’s religious and cultural legacy. “This book is a living testimony of a village’s faith—its people, priests, sacred places, and deep Christian roots,” he said.

Fr. Gomes, one of the senior priests of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, holds a Licentiate in Church History and a Master’s in Spiritual Theology from the Dominican University in Rome. He has authored 25 books, each reflecting themes of history, faith, and Goan culture.

Xant Amcho Mandurcho Ganv traces the spiritual journey of Mandur, detailing the history of the Church, records of priests ordained across the centuries and also diocesan priests who served the parish, and the role of key institutions like Our Lady of Amparo School and the local music school. The book also honours the tradition of legacy Masses and highlights the present-day Church’s pastoral initiatives.

Describing the book as a “labour of love,” Br. Alfonso noted it captures Fr. Gomes’ deep personal bond with Mandur and its vibrant Christian heritage.

Fr. Gomes expressed heartfelt gratitude during the event, which Brenda Fernandes, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, ably anchored.
