ICYM and YCS Youth from Udupi Embark on Village Exposure Trip at St. Philip Neri Church, Basrur!

Basrur, April 28, 2025: The vibrant spirit of service and community bonding came alive during the two-day "Halli Jeevan" camp held at Basrur on April 26–27, 2025. Organised under the leadership of Parish Priest Fr. Roy, the camp brought together youth participants from various regions, inspiring them to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with deeper values of service, faith, and fellowship.

Fr. Roy warmly welcomed all participants, emphasising the importance of selfless service and genuine community engagement. In an effort to deepen interpersonal interactions, participants voluntarily submitted their mobile phones, symbolically embracing the theme of "disconnecting to reconnect." A detailed program schedule was introduced, outlining the meaningful activities planned over the two days.

At the heart of "Halli Jeevan" was a mission of compassion — the repair and refurbishment of a selected home within the Basrur locality. Armed with tools, teamwork, and determination, the youth diligently carried out the restoration work, reinforcing the powerful message: “Service to humanity is service to God.” This act of rebuilding not only repaired walls but also built enduring bonds of solidarity and love.

After a day of laborious service, the camp atmosphere transformed into one of vibrant fellowship through volleyball, football, and cricket matches. On the night of April 26, a lively campfire session united the youth and parishioners, filled with games, songs, laughter, and heartfelt moments — a true celebration of community under the stars.

Spiritual nourishment was an integral part of the camp. A YouCat session led by Br. Derick Mascarenhas deepened the participants' understanding of their faith. The presence of dignitaries — Fr. Charles, Fr. Steevan Fernandes, Fr. Vijay, and Fr. Ashvin Aranha — added grace to the event. Fr. Steevan’s stirring words, "The Church is alive where its youth are alive," resonated strongly with the young minds, encouraging them to be dynamic leaders of tomorrow.

A special highlight of the Diocesan awareness program was ICYM Dexco Treasurer Clarilda’s initiative, "The Unheard Stories," which raised awareness on mental health through dance and street play, promoting empathy and understanding in the community.

The spirit of teamwork continued through recreational activities like Tug of War, Volleyball matches, and a Treasure Hunt, strengthening bonds of friendship and shared purpose among participants.

Throughout the camp, the hospitality of the Basrur parish community was deeply felt. Warm meals, generous care, and open hearts reflected the love and commitment of the hosts, leaving participants both nourished and uplifted.

As the "Halli Jeevan" camp concluded, participants carried with them not just memories, but renewed energy and purpose to serve. In the words of one participant: "We came to build a house, but we ended up building a home — in the hearts of many."

"Halli Jeevan" was a testament to what faith, service, and community spirit can achieve when lived out with joy and sincerity.
