Tamil Synod Document Launched on Archbishop George Antonysamy’s Jubilee

Chennai, 23 September 2025: The Church in Tamil Nadu marked a historic day on Sunday, 21 September, as the official Tamil translation of the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality was solemnly released at Nazarethpet, Chennai, coinciding with the 20th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary of Archbishop George Antonysamy, President of the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council. Clergy, faithful, and Church leaders gathered to celebrate the dual occasion, honouring episcopal service and embracing the Synod’s vision in the local language.

The twin celebrations highlighted both gratitude and hope: thanksgiving for Archbishop Antonysamy’s two decades of leadership and renewed commitment to the synodal journey of the Tamil Church. Many participants described the event as a “milestone of grace” for the local Church.

The day also witnessed the inauguration of the Holy Family Counselling Centre, a pastoral initiative dedicated to supporting families and strengthening community bonds.

Bishops and clergy emphasised that with the Final Document now available in Tamil, the faithful can actively engage with the Synod’s vision of a Church that listens, walks together, and serves. They urged communities to live the principles of communion, participation, and mission, moving beyond reading the text to embodying its message in daily life.

For attendees, the celebrations symbolised a reflective gratitude for past leadership and a hopeful step forward, guiding the Tamil Church along Christ’s path in unity and service.
