Catechism Teachers Equipped for Mission in Khandwa Diocese

Khandwa, September 23, 2025 – The Commission for Faith Formation of the Diocese of Khandwa organised a Catechism Teachers’ Training Programme across two deaneries, drawing together nearly 100 catechism teachers eager to strengthen their vocation of faith formation.

The sessions took place on 20 September at Khandwa Deanery and on 21 September at Khargone Deanery. Each programme attracted around 50 participants, who joined with enthusiasm and zeal to deepen their service as catechists.

Fr. Dr. Babu Chirayath served as the main resource person. He reminded participants that the role of a catechist extends beyond imparting knowledge, emphasising instead the call to form children in faith and nurture them as true disciples of Christ. His inputs covered three key areas:

The significance of the Jubilee Year of the Church.

The mission and responsibility of catechism teachers within the Church.

Practical and effective methodologies of teaching based on catechism texts.

The sessions were well received, inspiring teachers to embrace their mission with renewed dedication and creativity.

Bishop Augustine addressed the gatherings with words of encouragement. He praised the commitment of catechists and urged both the participants and the Commission to sustain Sunday Catechism in a meaningful and faith-filled manner.

Behind the smooth execution of the training were Commission members Fr. Laijo Jose, Sinu Mathew and Fr. Stanley, whose careful planning and coordination ensured both deaneries benefited equally from the initiative.

In the end, the Catechism Teachers’ Training Programme stood out as a fruitful and uplifting experience. It not only equipped catechists with practical skills but also renewed their vision and faith, empowering them to serve more effectively in their parishes and communities.
