Shillong, 4 April, 2025 -
The Shillong Archdiocese Catholic Youth Movement (SACYM) joyfully received the Convention Cross as it arrived from the Diocese of Nongstoin, continuing its journey across the 15 dioceses of Northeast India before reaching Kohima, Nagaland, for the Regional Youth Convention.
The event commenced with a solemn procession, led by Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh, alongside Fr. John Barman, MSFS (Regional Youth Director), Sr. Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh, MSMHC (Regional Youth Lady Animator), and regional youth leaders. The faithful recited the Divine Mercy Chaplet en route to the Cathedral Church, where the Convention Cross was officially handed over to the Archbishop in the presence of dignitaries and youth members.
Following the handover, the President of SACYM delivered a welcome speech, and Fr. John Barman explained the significance of the Cross. He urged young Catholics to embrace their faith with zeal, seeing the Cross as a call to mission and service. A period of Adoration, led by Fr. Cyrus Syiemlieh, was held before the evening’s highlight—the Holy Mass.
Archbishop Lyngdoh, as the main celebrant, delivered a powerful homily, reminding the youth that the Cross symbolises strength and hope in times of struggle. After the Mass, Sr. Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh led a Post-Communion Prayer, followed by a felicitation ceremony honouring key dignitaries.
In his address, Mr. Jonah Chithung, President of ICYM-NE, encouraged the youth to spiritually prepare for the upcoming convention in Kohima. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks and the Archbishop’s blessing of the Cross, followed by a fellowship dinner, marking a spiritually enriching evening of unity and faith.
