Vatican City, October 15, 2025: Pope Leo received the Augustinian Recollect Sisters of the Federation of Mexico in the Vatican prior to his Wednesday General Audience, rejoicing in their God-given joy and urging them to continue their spiritual journey. The meeting highlighted the sisters’ pilgrimage to Rome during this Holy Year as a moment of encounter with the Lord.
“To encounter the Lord in the life we have so gladly embraced, we must walk a path, as pilgrims do,” Pope Leo said, noting, “I can see that He has filled you with joy.” He referenced Saint Thomas of Villanova, attributing this joy to the Lord and framing it within the pilgrimage of faith, which he described as encompassing two key paths: mercy and truth.
The Pope encouraged the sisters to serve like Martha through works of mercy or contemplate like Mary at Jesus’ feet, emphasising love as the heart of their mission. “God, in fact, does not look at what or how much you do, but at how much you grow in desire and love for Him; because, although it is true that each will be judged by their works, the true weight of the work is the charity of the heart,” he explained. He warned that without love, labours lose meaning and become “a burden to the soul,” but “where there is love, there is no suffering.”
