Mysore Diocese Inaugurates Jubilee Year with Solemn Cross Procession

Mysuru, December 30, 2024: The Jubilee Year observances of the Mysore Diocese were inaugurated by Archbishop Emeritus Bernard Moras, serving as the apostolic administrator of the Mysore, through a distinctive ceremony on December 29. The event featured a solemn procession of an 8-foot-tall cross, which traveled through all diocesan churches before being placed at St. Philomena's Church, symbolizing unity and collective faith.

The Jubilee Year marks the Catholic tradition of celebrating Jesus Christ’s birth every 25 years. Speaking at the inauguration, Archbishop Moras emphasized the year’s mission to support the poor, the sick, and the helpless. “Spiritual and social activities will be conducted across all churches, institutions, and district headquarters of the diocese. To begin with, Our Lady of the Poor Church will provide daily meals for over 100 people. The mission is to share the good news of Jesus Christ,” he said.

The procession began at Our Lady of the Poor Church on Mysuru-Bengaluru Road and culminated at St. Philomena's Church. The observance included prayers and a special mass, uniting faithful from the dioceses of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, and Kodagu. Clergy members including Rev. Staney D'Almeda, Rev. Joseph Marie, Rev. Joseph Packiaraj, and Rev. Sebastian participated in the celebration.

The Jubilee Year is set to feature various spiritual and social initiatives aimed at fostering faith and service across the diocese.
