Kurnool, December 30, 2024: The Diocese of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, inaugurated the Jubilee Year 2025 on December 29 under the leadership of Bishop Johannes Gorantla. The event commenced with the blessing of a newly crafted cross, which was carried in a reverent procession from St. Joseph’s EM School to Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral in Raja Nagar. Over 1,200 laypeople, 70 diocesan clergy and numerous religious women attended the ceremony, reflecting the community’s deep commitment to this global Catholic observance.
The evening unfolded with a solemn Mass at the Cathedral, during which the newly blessed cross was installed in the church's sanctuary. This cross will remain a focal point of worship throughout the Jubilee Year. Pope Francis's theme for this Holy Year, “Pilgrims of Hope,” calls the faithful worldwide to deepen their faith, embrace reconciliation and renew their commitment to Christ and the Church.
During the Mass, Bishop Gorantla urged participants to embark on pilgrimages, regularly receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and actively live out the teachings of Pope Francis. Highlighting plans for diocesan engagement, he announced the formulation of specific laws for the Jubilee with contributions from deans, consultors and preparatory committees.
Acknowledging the efforts behind the event’s success, Bishop Gorantla expressed gratitude to the deans, Cathedral and Co-Cathedral parish priests Fr. S. Devadas and Fr. Anthony Raj, and Pastoral Center Director Fr. E. Balaraj for their meticulous arrangements.
The Jubilee Year 2025 is a Holy Year of grace, reconciliation and renewal, inviting Catholics to rediscover faith and hope in Christ. The faithful of the Diocese of Kurnool are encouraged to participate in various Jubilee activities, including prayer services, acts of charity and catechesis, as part of Pope Francis’s global vision. This special year promises to unite the diocese in spiritual enrichment and commitment to the Church’s mission.
