Imphal, August 21, 2025 – A one-day leadership seminar for catechists’ trainees was held on 14 August at the Pastoral Training Centre, Tungjoy, Senapati district, under the Archdiocese of Imphal. The session was organised by Fr. Titus Zimik, Dean of the Centre, with the aim of strengthening future Church leaders in their mission.
The programme opened with a warm welcome and introduction of the 27 trainees by Fr. Solomon Thezii, Director of the Pastoral Training Centre. The participants, currently enrolled in the two-year diploma course for the 2025–2027 batch, began their formation six months ago and are preparing for grassroots ministry in their local communities.
The resource person for the day was Fr. Joseph Thohrii, former Vice-Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Ukhrul. Addressing the theme of transformative and effective leadership in the Church and society today, Fr. Thohrii underlined the crucial role of the Church in the 21st century. He urged the trainees to embrace leadership that is both dynamic and efficient, encouraging them to be “daredevils of faith” in carrying out their mission.
He also reminded the gathering that catechists serve as the Church’s grassroots leaders, playing a vital role in the evangelising mission and in building the kingdom of God on earth. His address was marked by practical insights and inspiring challenges, drawing an engaged response from the participants.
The young catechists actively took part in the interactive session, posing questions and reflecting on their calling. The day’s proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by trainee representative Mr. Jacob Liankhanhau. In his remarks, he acknowledged the “powerful inputs and unique, innovative ideas” that had enriched their learning during the seminar.
The event ended on a warm note with tea and snacks shared among those present, fostering fellowship and a sense of community. The trainees, hailing from different regions of Manipur and the neighbouring state of Nagaland, left with renewed enthusiasm for their journey of formation and mission.
The seminar not only equipped the catechists-in-training with practical leadership skills but also reinforced their identity as missionary leaders at the service of the Church and society.
