Joining Civil Services Can Empower Society, Says Aravind Chokkadi

Udupi, Karnataka ,November 7, 2025: Noted Kannada writer, thinker and scholar Aravind Chokkadi said that genuine societal empowerment can take root when more youth from the coastal region enter the civil services. He was delivering the keynote address at a civil services training workshop organised by the Udupi Diocese at the Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Udupi.

Chokkadi pointed out a noticeable difference in interest levels between students from the coastal belt and those from North India. He stressed that the desire to join civil services should stem from personal conviction rather than external pressure. Only then, he said, can civil servants serve society with integrity and effectiveness. He also noted that preparing for civil service examinations helps build focus, discipline and resilience.

Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo, of Udupi Diocese, presided over the programme. He highlighted the importance of sustained hard work in achieving success and encouraged aspirants to persevere until their efforts bear fruit. He also underlined the role of parents in motivating their children to take up civil service careers. The Bishop reiterated the diocese’s commitment to continue supporting aspirants with information, training and guidance in the coming years.

Civil service aspirants Jasmin Jennifer Lobo of Bantwal and Ashish Kuldeep Alva of Moodubelle shared insights from their preparation journeys, inspiring the participants.
