Lay Evangelizers of Sivagangai Diocese Embark on a Pilgrimage to Idaikattur Shrine

Tamil Nadu, November 6, 2025: As part of the Jubilee Year celebrations, lay evangelizers from the Diocese of Sivagangai undertook a meaningful pilgrimage titled HOPE WALK – “Ithayam Nokki” (Towards the Heart) to the Sacred Heart Shrine in Idaikattur. The walk stood as a powerful witness of faith, commitment, and spiritual renewal among the laity.

Bishop Lourdu Anandam, of Sivagangai, presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration. During the ceremony, he hoisted the Jubilee Year flag and blessed saplings that symbolized new life, hope, and the diocese’s dedication to nurturing both faith and creation. He was joined by Fr Arul Joseph, Vicar General, Fr. Maria Dellus, Chancellor, Fr. Sebastin, Diocesan Commissions Coordinator, and several priests, who accompanied the faithful in prayer and thanksgiving.

As a concrete expression of their commitment to Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’, the lay evangelizers planted 1,000 saplings along the roadside and within the Laudato Si’ Park of the Shrine. The gesture reflected their belief in safeguarding creation as an essential part of evangelization and Christian witness.

The pilgrimage was thoughtfully organized and coordinated by Fr. John Vasantha Kumar, Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart Shrine, with the support of the Diocesan Commission for Evangelization, ensuring a spirit of unity, devotion, and ecological responsibility throughout the event.
