Grand Celebration of National Youth Sunday Held in Ambikapur, Chattisgarh

Ambikapur, Chattisgarh, August 17, 2025 — The Diocese of Ambikapur marked National Youth Sunday with a vibrant and faith-filled celebration at St. Xavier’s School Campus, drawing more than 2,000 young participants from across the region.


The event, organised by the Youth Commission of the Diocese, began with the hoisting of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) flag, followed by a solemn Eucharistic Mass presided over by the Dr. Antony Bara, Bishop of Ambikapur.


Distinguished guests at the occasion included Bishop Antony Bara, Fr. Sushil Tigga, Vice Principal of St. Xavier’s B.Ed. College, Fr. Cyril Khakha, Principal of St. Xavier’s School, and Fr. Marianus. They were joined by around 25 youth directors, priests, and women religious from the Diocese, whose presence added further significance to the gathering.


In his address, Bishop Bara highlighted the importance of youth in the life of the Church and society, urging them to embrace the message of Christ as a guiding light for peace and harmony. The central aim of the day was to foster the religious, cultural, and political growth of the younger generation while encouraging them to live as witnesses of unity and faith.


The celebration also featured the presence of Dr. Ajay Tirkey, former Mayor of Ambikapur, who commended the young people for their enthusiasm and offered words of encouragement to inspire them towards active involvement in community and public life. His message was received with great appreciation by the gathering.


With a strong turnout of over 2,000 youth, the event was not only a spiritual milestone but also a historic moment for the Diocese. The scale of participation and the energy of the young faithful reflected the strength of the Church’s commitment to empowering its youth.
