CRI Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Urges Peace and Dialogue

New Delhi, 10 May, 2025 – The Conference of Religious India (CRI) has issued a strong statement condemning the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of several innocent civilians. Expressing deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims’ families, CRI has called for justice and accountability for those responsible for what it described as a “heinous act”.

In a powerful appeal, CRI denounced terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between the two countries involved. The religious body emphasised that violence, hatred, and war cannot build a foundation for lasting peace.

Quoting the words of Jesus Christ, “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9), CRI reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and the common good. “We pledge to be witnesses of peace, channels of healing, and advocates of justice,” said Fr. Saju Chackalackal CMI, speaking on behalf of the organisation.

Echoing the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, the statement underlined the power of non-violence, dialogue, and compassion in defending both citizens and national integrity. CRI urged political leaders on both sides to take immediate and practical steps towards peace and reconciliation.

Appealing to people of all faiths, the religious leaders encouraged collective prayer for peace and a united stand against hatred and communalism. The statement called on society to uphold the dignity of every human being, and to reject ideologies that foster division and violence.

“Violence and war only perpetuate suffering,” the statement read. “Forgiveness, dialogue, compassion, and non-violence are the only sustainable pathways to a just and harmonious society.”

Concluding its appeal, CRI once again called on both nations to stop the war immediately and to prioritise peaceful resolution through dialogue and reconciliation.
