Congress Protests Outside Parliament Over Good Friday Working Day in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, April 4, 2025 – The Congress on Friday criticised the BJP-led administration in Chandigarh for declaring Good Friday a working day, accusing the party of anti-Christian bias. Congress MPs staged a protest outside the Parliament, condemning the decision as a disregard for the religious significance of the day.

Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal alleged the move reflects a pattern of discrimination against Christians. "By declaring Good Friday a working day in Chandigarh, the BJP’s anti-Christian attitude is once again exposed," he wrote on social media.

Venugopal further claimed Christian priests face constant threats in BJP-ruled states, reinforcing concerns of religious intolerance. "They pretend to be well-wishers of the community, but such moves and the environment of fear in BJP-ruled states reveal their anti-minority, anti-Christian agenda," he said.

The controversy has sparked political debate, with opposition leaders accusing the BJP of disregarding religious sentiments. The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations.
