Jaipur, Rajasthan, Sept. 25, 2025: The XVI National Catechetical Conference of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) commenced on September 23, 2025, at Gyandeep Bhavan in Jaipur. The three-day gathering, organised by the CCBI Faith Formation Commission, is being held under the theme “Catechesis in and towards the Sacrament of the Eucharist”.
90 delegates, including bishops, diocesan secretaries of the Commission for Faith Formation, priests, religious, and lay catechists from across the country, are participating in the three-day event.
The inaugural day of the conference opened in an atmosphere of prayer, fellowship, and renewed commitment to the catechetical mission. With representatives from diverse regions of India, the conference provided a platform to reflect on how the Eucharist can continue to inspire and strengthen catechetical ministry nationwide.
A special highlight of the conference was the active involvement of young Communio volunteers and YOUCAT members, whose energy and enthusiasm infused the gathering with a youthful spirit.
These young Communio volunteers and YOUCAT members contributed to the event in many ways. They led several ice-breaking activities, supported both the liturgical and organisational aspects of the sessions held during the conference, guided community-building initiatives, and fostered networking among young participants. Their engagement extended beyond logistics, as they became true animators of the event—ensuring that all participants felt welcomed, included, and united. The service of the young Communio volunteers and YOUCAT members reminded all attendees that catechesis thrives not only in classrooms but also in fellowship, service, and active participation in the life of the Church.
The youth also had the opportunity to interact with Bishop Benny Varghese Edathattel of Itanagar, Chairman of the Faith Formation Commission of the Northeast Region, and Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation. The dialogue encouraged the youth to see themselves not only as learners but also as leaders and collaborators in spreading the Gospel.
By building bridges between youth and Church leaders, the Communio volunteers and YOUCAT members ensured that the perspectives of the younger generation were heard and valued. Their creativity, commitment, and faith-filled spirit added vibrancy to the conference discussions and inspired all present.
The participation of Communio volunteers and YOUCAT members at the conference stands as a testament to the fact that youth are not only the future but also the present strength of the Church in India—helping shape a Eucharist-centred, dynamic, and responsive catechesis for today’s faithful.
