Kathgodam, November 12, 2025: The diocese of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh organized a Women Leadership and SHG Capacity Building Programme at Suchetna Social Service Centre, Kathgodam, aimed at empowering women through leadership formation and self-help initiatives.
The two-day event was inaugurated by Fr. Pius Menezes, Director of Suchetna, and Sr. Preeti, OSF, Directress of the Women’s Commission. A total of 85 women from across the diocese participated. The program also marked the launch of 50 women leaders for the 10-Women Mission across five deaneries — a major milestone in strengthening the Women’s Commission’s mission of economic empowerment through Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
In his address, Fr. Menezes urged participants to cultivate positivity in thought and action, saying, “Make your brain think positively and make it a rule for your heartbeat to beat positively. This will help you radiate positive energy to others.”
Sr. Preeti led a practical demonstration on making soaps, detergents, handwash, phenyl, and candles — inspiring participants to pursue small-scale entrepreneurship. Sessions by Mrs. Deepa on government schemes for women and Mrs. Regina on SHG record-keeping and linkages provided valuable insights for long-term sustainability.
The program also celebrated Bishop Ignatius D’Souza, Fr. Menezes, and Sr. Preeti for their leadership. A joyful tribute was paid to Jemimah Rodrigues and the Indian Women’s Cricket Team with a cake-cutting ceremony.
Further sessions on organic pest management by Mr. Rajeev and herbal medicine by Mrs. Nandha enriched the learning experience.
