AIM-INDIA Marks Diamond Jubilee, Reaffirms Mission of Faith in Action

Bengaluru, October 5, 2025: The Apostolate in the Modern World (AIM-INDIA), a Catholic lay movement dedicated to promoting social transformation through personal renewal, celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of its foundation with a solemn and inspiring gathering at Paalana Bhavana, Bengaluru.

Founded in 1965 by the then Auxiliary Bishop of Bangalore, His Eminence Simon Cardinal Lourdusamy, AIM-INDIA has grown from a local initiative into a national movement, officially affiliated with MIAMSI (International Movement of Apostolate in the Independent Social Milieus) and recognised by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life at the Vatican. For six decades, it has sought to translate Catholic social teaching into concrete action within the everyday lives of lay faithful.

The jubilee celebration began with a Eucharistic thanksgiving, uniting members from across India in gratitude for 60 years of spiritual and social impact. The subsequent formal function reflected on the movement’s enduring legacy and its vision for the future. National President Mr. Lourdusamy delivered an overview of AIM-INDIA’s history, emphasising its growth from grassroots beginnings and its consistent focus on faith-based engagement in society.

A major highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr. Merlin Rengith Ambrose, Secretary of the Canon Law Commission of the CCBI and Professor of Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bengaluru. Speaking on “Participation of the Laity in the Synodal Church”, he explored the evolving and essential role of lay people in the Church’s life and mission. Drawing from the ongoing Synodal process, the Magisterium, and the Code of Canon Law, he underscored the need for lay members to be active participants in discernment, mission, and service within the Church and society.

The event also witnessed the release of two commemorative publications: a special Diamond Jubilee bookmark and a pamphlet outlining AIM-INDIA’s Motto, Aims, and Objectives, designed to inspire future generations of members.

The celebration was efficiently coordinated by the National Executive Committee in collaboration with the Bangalore unit, ensuring a well-organised and meaningful event that reflected both gratitude for the movement’s legacy and enthusiasm for its future direction.

Marking six decades of lay apostolate, AIM-INDIA’s Diamond Jubilee reaffirmed the movement’s enduring mission to unite faith with action in everyday life. Rooted in Gospel values and guided by the teachings of the Church, AIM-INDIA continues to inspire its members to bring about social transformation through personal conversion and committed Christian witness.
