Udupi, July 23, 2025 – The Young Christian Students (YCS) movement of the Udupi Diocese successfully concluded its three-day formation programme, held from 18 to 20 July 2025 at the Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Kakkunje, Udupi. The event brought together Diocesan Executive Committee (DEXCO) members for an enriching experience focused on leadership formation, self-reflection, and deeper engagement with the YCS mission.
A creative “life logo” activity led by Mr. Anson Nazareth, National President of YCS/YSM, encouraged participants to reflect on their identity and personal journey. Fr. Steven Fernandes, Chaplain of YCS/YSM Udupi Diocese, conducted ice-breaking sessions and officially welcomed the group. A significant highlight was the personal sharing segment, where council members spoke candidly about their life experiences and struggles, fostering a deeper sense of trust and unity.
Members of the Mangalore Diocesan YCS Council joined the sessions the following day, contributing to the discussions and adding momentum to the learning experience. Council members delivered presentations on the movement’s aims, objectives, methodology, and history, helping to build confidence and improve communication skills. Activities and discussions were led by Fr. Steven, Mr. Anson Nazareth, Vance Rion, Rohan Danny, Amica, Flavian, Briston, and Jiya. Participants also took part in Cell Meetings, where they worked in groups to analyse case studies and explore practical responses grounded in the YCS framework. The day concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Mr. Elson Hirgan addressed the group on *“The Role of a Youth Leader and My Contribution to YCS through Service and Sacrifice,”* followed by interactive discussions and group tasks. Ms. Jesvita D’Souza, President of YCS/YSM Karnataka, delivered an inspiring talk, urging young leaders to serve with commitment and vision drawn from her own journey.
The final day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist by Fr. Steven Fernandes, who also serves as Director of YCS/YSM and ICYM. A special Way of the Cross was conducted in honour of the Karnataka Regional Youth Convention (KRYC) Cross, which was blessed by Fr. Fernandes. This marked the beginning of its journey across the YCS units of Udupi Diocese, with its first stop at Byndoor. The prayer also included intentions for the success of the upcoming Regional Youth Convention in October, to be held in the Diocese of Karwar.
The formation programme proved to be a transformative experience, deepening participants’ understanding of the YCS movement, nurturing leadership potential, and strengthening fellowship among the youth. With renewed zeal, the young leaders are now poised to carry forward the mission of YCS in their respective communities.
