Agra, 23 March 2025 – The annual Agra Regional Bishops’ Council (ARBC) meeting was held on 20–21 March at the Archbishop’s House, Agra. Chaired by Archbishop Raphy Manjaly, the gathering included 12 bishops and Bishop-elect Msgr. John Carvalho, who will be consecrated as Bishop of Ajmer on 11 May 2025.
The Council, representing 12 dioceses and the Eparchy of Shamshabad across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, deliberated on pastoral planning and key regional challenges. Discussions covered the Anti-Conversion Bill, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and new financial and taxation reforms affecting Church activities. The bishops also reviewed the progress of the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033 and various commissions.
On 20 March, they visited St. Xavier’s Regional Seminary, Etmadpur, celebrating the Holy Eucharist and engaging with seminarians and staff. Emphasising priestly formation, they interacted with formators and students. On 21 March, they turned their focus to Uttar Kshetriya Samaj Vikas Kendra (UKSVK), Agra, discussing the Church’s social development initiatives.
The Council honoured Bishop Gerald John Mathias of Lucknow on his Episcopal Silver Jubilee and warmly welcomed Msgr. John Carvalho.
Archbishop Raphy Manjaly thanked the bishops for their dedication and valuable contributions to the Agra Regional Church. The ARBC meeting reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to pastoral growth, social development, and addressing contemporary challenges, ensuring a dynamic and mission-driven future.
