Vatican City, 13 April, 2025– Pope Francis made a surprise appearance in St. Peter’s Square on Palm Sunday, delighting thousands of pilgrims with a personal greeting at the conclusion of the Mass for the Lord’s Passion.
Although the Mass was presided over by Cardinal Leonardo Sandri on behalf of the Holy Father, Pope Francis emerged from St. Peter’s Basilica shortly after the final blessing. In a wheelchair, he greeted the faithful and offered his heartfelt wishes for a "Happy Palm Sunday and Happy Holy Week".
The Pope spent approximately ten minutes in the square, moving among the gathered crowd and sharing brief moments of interaction. His unexpected visit was met with warm applause and joy from those present, many of whom were visibly moved by the gesture.
