Christians in Kunkuri Rally Against False Allegations on Nursing College Principal

Kunkuri, Chhattisgarh, April 14, 2025:

Hundreds of Christians from the Jashpur district gathered in Kunkuri town today to protest what they described as false allegations of forced religious conversion levelled against Sister Bincy Joseph, Principal of Holy Cross Nursing College, Kunkuri. The peaceful rally, marked by banners and chants demanding justice, aimed to express solidarity with Sr. Bincy and call for the withdrawal of an FIR lodged against her.

The protest was organized in response to a complaint filed earlier this month by a third-year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) student of the college, who accused Sr. Bincy of pressuring her to convert to Christianity and urging her to become a nun. The allegations have been strongly denied by Sr. Bincy, who maintains that the student is taking revenge against her because she had not signed on her course completion certificate. Sr. Bincy added that she did not sign her certificate because the student failed to fulfill mandatory practical training as well as stipulated attendance requirements, which impacted her course completion.

Following the student's complaint, a six-member fact-finding committee was formed by the District Collector and conducted an inquiry at the college on April 4. Sr. Bincy was later summoned by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and an FIR was filed on April 6. Her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the First Additional Sessions Court in Kunkuri on April 11, intensifying concern within the Catholic community.

Supporters of Sr. Bincy are calling for transparency, justice, and protection of the rights of educators against baseless accusations.

As investigations continue, the Catholic community in Jashpur remains hopeful that the truth will prevail and Sr. Bincy’s name will be cleared.
