Vatican City, December 29, 2024: Pope Francis, in his Angelus address on the Feast Day of the Holy Family, offered heartfelt prayers for families worldwide who are suffering due to conflict, grief, and recent tragedies. The Pope specifically remembered the victims and survivors of a tragic plane crash in South Korea, which claimed the lives of at least 177 people. He also called for prayers for families impacted by wars across the globe, from Ukraine to Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, Sudan, and North Kivu.
Addressing the faithful gathered in St. Peter Square and those listening through the media, the Holy Father extended a special greeting on the occasion of the Feast day of the Holy Family. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to families grieving the loss of loved ones in South Korea, where a plane crash claimed at least 177 lives on Sunday morning during landing. "I join in prayer for the survivors of the plane crash and for those who lost their lives in the incident," he stated.
Pope Francis also drew attention to the devastating impact of conflicts in countries like Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, Sudan, and North Kivu. "Let us pray for all these families affected by conflict," he urged, emphasizing the importance of supporting those enduring the hardships of war.
The Holy Father's remarks highlighted the Church's commitment to standing with the suffering and calling for peace during this time of reflection and renewal. Families present in St. Peter’s Square during the Pope's address as well as those connected via online media joined in prayer, demonstrating solidarity with the Pope’s compassionate appeal.
