Over 2,000 Children Join “Hopeful Little Hearts” Jubilee Celebration in Coimbatore Diocese

Coimbatore, August 18, 2025 — The Pastoral Centre of the Coimbatore Diocese organised a magnificent celebration in honour of the Jubilee Year 2025, with a special focus on children. The one-day event, held on 10 August at the St. Michael’s Cathedral campus, was aptly titled “Hopeful Little Hearts” and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 2,000 children and 245 catechism teachers from various parishes across the diocese.

The event unfolded across three key venues within the Cathedral campus — St. Michael’s Auditorium, the Crypt Church, and the Jeeva Jothi Hall — each hosting a variety of activities designed to help children embrace and internalise the Jubilee Year’s central theme: “Pilgrims of Hope.” This spiritual celebration sought to instil in the hearts of young participants the core message: “We are walking together – One Church, One Faith.”

Drawing inspiration from the motivational message of Pope Francis, the programme emphasised that no one walks alone in this pilgrimage of faith — we journey together as one united family in Christ. The Pope’s words encouraged children to remain hopeful and courageous in the face of challenges, and these ideals were brought to life through powerful sessions conducted by Fr. Christopher Roach (Vice-Rector, Good Shepherd Seminary) and Fr. Christopher (Rector, St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary). Their talks centred on the significance of the Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, guiding the children to deepen their spiritual roots.

The inaugural and introductory messages were delivered by Fr. A. Arokiaraj Stephen (Vicar Forane and Parish Priest, St. Michael’s Cathedral).

Adding vibrant energy to the celebration, Bro. Selvaraj and his team from Kadugu Vidhai, Chennai, captivated the children through engaging activities including puppet shows, interactive games, action songs, and a magic show, all designed to convey the message of Christian hope and joy. In the afternoon, a cultural programme on Gospel themes — featuring mimes, skits, and action songs — was conducted by Bro. J. Rajesh and his team from Jireh Missions, leaving a lasting impression on the young hearts.

The spiritual highlight of the day was the Solemn High Mass, held at St. Michael’s Cathedral, concelebrated by Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Aquinas, Bishop of Coimbatore, along with Msgr. Fr. John Joseph Stanis (Vicar General) and clergy.

This historic and spiritually enriching event was meticulously coordinated and brought to fruition under the leadership of Fr. D. Antony Jesuraj (Director, Pastoral Centre; Coordinator of All Commissions). He was ably supported by Fr. Vincent Pushparaj (Director of Madha TV; Secretary, Commission for Social Communication), Fr. Gladwin (Bishop’s Secretary), Fr. Arul Irudhayaraj (Assistant Parish Priest, St. Francis Xavier Church, Sowripalayam), Fr. Dinato Joseph (Assistant Parish Priest, St. Michael’s Cathedral), Fr. A. Naveen Antony (Assistant Parish Priest, Infant Jesus Shrine, Kovaipudur), Fr. Andrew Arokiaraj (Vice-Rector, St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary), and Fr. S. Rayappadass (Assistant Parish Priest, Basilica of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary).

Parish Priests across the Diocese supported the participation of children in the Jubilee celebration. The “Hopeful Little Hearts” event stands as a testament to the Diocese’s commitment to nurturing faith and hope in the next generation, ensuring that even the youngest members of the Church feel seen, valued, and inspired to walk on their spiritual journey together as ONE HOLY CHURCH.
