Amrat Talitha Kum Maharashtra Holds Regional Assembly in Mumbai

Mumbai, August 18, 2025: The Amrat Talitha Kum Network Maharashtra Regional Assembly was held on 10 August 2025 at Vinayalaya, Andheri, Mumbai, drawing together 44 participants committed to the fight against human trafficking.

The gathering opened with a prayer led by Sr. Moksha Anthonappa FMA, setting a reflective and spiritual tone for the day. Outgoing Regional Coordinator, Sr. Sagayamary SCHSA, welcomed participants and introduced the first speaker, Advocate Prosper D’Souza.

Mr. D’Souza, associated with Wadala Church and the Archdiocese of Mumbai, as well as a professor at a law college, delivered a comprehensive session on cybercrimes, online exploitation, and digital trafficking. He examined the legal aspects of social media, the dark web, and tech-based control, stressing the role of cyber laws in tackling digital abuse. His insights highlighted the urgent need for legal awareness in a rapidly evolving online environment.

The second session, led by Dr. Anniha Lobo, focused on mental health and risk management. She explained that mental health encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being, which directly shape thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Dr. Lobo identified risks such as excessive workload, harassment, trauma, financial strain, and social isolation, urging participants to adopt preventive measures and prioritise mental well-being in all areas of life.

After a short tea break, Mr. Aboo Varghese of the Purnata organisation led the third session. Grounded in his fieldwork experience, he recounted efforts to rescue over 44 trafficking survivors and shared moving testimonies from victims who rebuilt their lives. These stories underscored the pressing need for rehabilitation and sustained support systems.

Following lunch, Advocate Bro Rajesh Parmar SJ addressed the migrant crisis. He outlined practical ways to liaise with government agencies and other authorities during emergencies, equipping attendees with strategies for legal support and advocacy for displaced individuals.

The assembly also marked a transition in leadership. In the presence of Sr. Meera, President of AMRAT, elections were held to appoint a new Regional Coordinator. Sr. Monica Kujur, of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, was elected and symbolically entrusted with a sapling by Sr. Sagayamary SCHSA, signifying growth and responsibility. Sr. Meera also presented a sapling to Sr. Sagayamary in appreciation of her dedicated three years of service, marked by perseverance and a spirit of unity.

Sr. Hira Parkhe SCC will continue as Secretary, while Sr. Moksha Anthonappa FMA will serve as Treasurer. The day concluded with a vote of thanks from Adv. Sr. Hira Parkhe, who recognised the contributions of all participants and affirmed the importance of collaboration and networking.

The one-day assembly ended in evening, leaving participants renewed in their shared mission to combat human trafficking and support vulnerable communities.
