Bhadravathi, 23 March, 2025 – Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Old Town, Bhadravathi, celebrated International Women’s Day with a special liturgy and cultural programmes honouring women’s contributions to the parish.
Mrs. Mary D’Souza, Diocesan President of the Commission for Women, explained the commission’s objectives, membership rules, and annual subscriptions. She encouraged women to engage at the diocesan level and invited them to the 7th National Conference in Chennai. She also presented appreciation certificates to the President and Secretary and awarded a shield to Mrs. Reshma and Sr. Shobhana SCB for their contributions.
Parish priest Fr. Steevan D’Sa praised women’s dedication and urged them to take leadership roles in the Church. He highlighted their vital role in shaping families and instilling values in children.
Sr. Wilma Rebello, Superior of St Charles Convent, congratulated the women on their talents and dedication, encouraging them to inspire their families with patience, hard work, and love. Sr. Theresa Mascarenhas SCB emphasised unity, after which Sr. Shobhana and Mrs. Johnny Assumpta received honours for their contributions.
Mrs. Rita J. anchored the programme, while Mrs. Irine D’Souza welcomed attendees. Cultural performances by parish women added vibrancy to the event. Mrs. Eliza Lawrence delivered the vote of thanks before the celebration ended with a fellowship meal for nearly 150 participants.
The event reinforced women’s role in faith and community, celebrating their dedication and leadership.
