Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil Meets Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi

On February 9, 2024, the newly elected Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, Mar Raphael Thattil, held a meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi on Friday February 9, 2024.


Accompanying Major Archbishop Thattil were Archbishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara of Faridabad and Bishop Jose Puthenveettil, the Auxiliary Bishop of Faridabad. Also present in the meeting were Ministers of State, Shri. Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Shri. V. Muraleedharan.


Mar Raphael Thattil expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for sending a letter of felicitation on the occasion of his enthronement as the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church. The Prime Minister extended his congratulations once more and assured Mar Raphael Thattil of his collaboration. 


The Major Archbishop clarified during the media briefing that the meeting with the Prime Minister was merely a courtesy visit. He emphasized that there was no specific agenda discussed, indicating that it was more of a friendly gesture extended by both parties.


Mar Raphael Thattil was elected as the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church on January 8, 2024, and subsequently installed on January 11, 2024.
