Karwar, July 20, 2024:Churches and schools in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district have been converted into relief centers as heavy rains continue to lash the region, causing widespread flooding in several villages. A major landslide near Shiroor on Tuesday left 6 people dead and one still reported missing. The landslide has caused the Gangavalli river to overflow resulting in 15 to 20 houses in Ulavare village getting flooded.
Bishop Duming Dias of Karwar diocese visited the flood affected villages in the diocese such as Gundibala, Hadinbal, Kavoor and Chendia. Residents are struggling due to floodwaters entering houses and leaving roads and lands completely submerged. Rescue efforts are underway by locals who are mobilizing boats to bring stranded families to safety. The Karwar diocese is making all efforts to bring relief to those affected.
