Rome, March 14, 2025: The Pontifical Urban University in Rome has nominated Rev. Fr. Dr. Merlin Rengith Ambrose, a priest from the Diocese of Kottar, to the International Scientific Committee and the Editorial Board of Ius Missionale, a distinguished Italian canonical journal published by the university.
Rev. Dr. Merlin Ambrose will serve as the Asia representative of the university on these two fora while continuing his roles as a faculty member of Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore, and as the Executive Secretary of the Commission for Canon Law within the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI). His nomination recognises his expertise in Canon Law, further solidified by his docens stabilis (Missio Canonica), granted by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education in 2023.
Known for his pastoral approach to teaching and dedication to research, Rev. Dr. Merlin Ambrose is highly regarded within the distinguished canonical community. He has made significant scholarly contributions through numerous publications, including authored books and peer-reviewed articles in Indian and international journals. Additionally, he serves as an executive committee member of the Canon Law Society of India (CLSI). His appointment as the university's Asia representative to the editorial board of Ius Missionale is expected to enrich the journal’s academic rigour and further the study of Canon Law within both the Indian and universal Church.
