ICYM Chikmagalur Champions Sportsmanship at Kreedotsava 2025

Chikmagalur, February 25, 2025— The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Chikmagalur Diocese, Karnataka, successfully hosted Kreedotsava 2025, an exhilarating sports event that brought together over 400 young athletes from 17 parishes on February 23. Organised by the Chikmagalur ICYM Youth Commission (DEXCO), the event aimed to foster sportsmanship, unity, and faith among Catholic youth.  

The high-energy tournament took place at St. Joseph High School, Jyoti Nagar, Chikmagalur, where participants showcased their skills across a variety of sports, including cricket, volleyball, football, throwball, and tug of war. The competitions, played in the spirit of fair play and camaraderie, created an electrifying atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and friendly rivalry.  

The event kicked off with a Holy Eucharistic celebration, invoking divine blessings on the players. A moment of pride unfolded as national-level athletes from the youth community carried the torch and hoisted the flag while the ICYM anthem played, setting an inspiring tone for the day.  

Adding to the uniqueness of Kreedotsava 2025, priests and religious sisters actively participated in sporting events, motivating the youth and reinforcing a strong sense of community. Their involvement added a special touch, making the event a celebration of both physical and spiritual strength.  

The success of the event was driven by the dedication and leadership of Fr. George Fernandes, ICYM Director, and Fr. Colin Lobo, Assistant Director, alongside the Diocesan Executive Committee (DEXCO). Their unwavering support, along with the contributions of parish priests and the faithful of the Chikmagalur Diocese, ensured the seamless execution of this grand sporting festival.  

Beyond the thrill of competition, Kreedotsava 2025 instilled leadership, discipline, and unity among young Catholics, making it a spiritually enriching and memorable experience. The event stood as a testament to the power of sports in bringing communities together, strengthening faith, and fostering lifelong friendships.
