Mainpur, 23 March 2023: A Free Medical Health Camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was held at St. Joseph School, Singngat, on 22 March, as part of a district-wide relief effort. The initiative was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India, highlighting the importance of legal and healthcare support for displaced communities.
The camp was organized under NALSA, in collaboration with Manipur State Legal Services, CMC Churachandpur, CHC Singngat, Saveetha Medical College Chennai, Assam Rifles Khuga Battalion, Mahar Regiment, and Garhwal Regiment. Over 170 IDPs from St. Joseph's Relief Camp, Lancha, and Belpuan received medical aid.
A medical team of 27 members, led by Dr. Steve Tungnung (CHC Singngat) and doctors from the Assam Rifles, conducted check-ups and provided free medication. A legal service helpline (15100) was also introduced for IDPs.
The event was coordinated by Legal Cell Volunteers Singngat and Mr. Thomas Paupi. Fr. Mung, Principal of St. Joseph School, Singngat, welcomed the initiative and thanked the medical teams for their service.
The district-wide initiative covered 11 locations, benefitting 14,178 IDPs from 81 relief camps with the support of 11 medical teams, ensuring vital healthcare access during this crisis.
