Fr. Joy Kodiyan CMI Passes Away at 52

Thrissur, August 13, 2025: Rev. Fr. Joy Kodiyan CMI (52), a member of the Devamatha Province, Thrissur, passed away at 7.50 a.m. today at Amala Hospital, Thrissur. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer for a short while. The funeral will be held at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, 14 August 2025) at Carmel Bhavan, Chalakkudy.

Born on 26 September 1972 at Pudukad in the Archdiocese of Thrissur, Fr. Joy made his first vows on 19 March 1993. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at Dharmaram College and was ordained a priest on 30 December 2002.

Following his ordination, he served as assistant parish priest of Infant Jesus Church, Thalore, for one year. He later rendered committed service as vicar of St Mary’s Church, Dhule (2003–2004), director and teacher of Chavara School, Shahada (2004–2007), teacher at Kuriakose Elias Chavara U.P. School, Potta (2008–2012), rector of St Mary’s Boys’s Home, Pullur (2012–2018), and headmaster of Kuriakose Elias Chavara U.P. School, Potta (2018–2025). From 2019 to 2024, he also served as pastoral collaborator of Little Flower Church, Potta.

Fr. Joy held a master’s degree in history from Annamalai University and a BEd from Christ College, Bangalore. He was known for his commitment and dedication to the apostolate of education and for playing a significant role in moulding the younger generation. An excellent pastor, he readily spared his time and energy to attend to the spiritual needs of the faithful.

His untimely demise at a young age is described as an irreparable loss to the CMI congregation. Fr. Joy, remembered as a dedicated religious who lived his life fully for God and His people through education and pastoral care, will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his gentle presence and inspiring life.

Fr. Thomas Parayil CMI, Rector-in-charge, called for prayers for the repose of his soul and for strength and comfort to his family and community during this time of grief.
