Fr. C. Lawrence D’Souza, Former St. John’s Medical College Director, Passes Away

Udupi, November 12, 2024: Rev. Fr. C. Lawrence D’Souza (75), a Catholic priest and native of Pangla, passed away this morning at Father Muller Medical College Hospital in Mangalore. 

Born on November 28, 1948, Fr. D'Souza was ordained on May 5, 1977, and dedicated nearly five decades to his ecclesiastical and academic pursuits, serving in various esteemed roles both in India and abroad.

Fr. D’Souza held secular qualifications including a B.Sc., an M.A. in Philosophy and an LL.B. Over his illustrious career, he contributed significantly to institutions like Fr. Muller’s as an assistant director, served as a Student Parochial Vicar in New York, was a former director at St. John’s in Bangalore, held the role of rector at Milagres Cathedral, and acted as secretary for the Catholic Education Society of Udupi (CESU).

Fr. D’Souza was predeceased by his parents, Mr. Casmir D'Souza and Ms. Regina D'Souza. 

The funeral Mass for Fr. Dr. Lawrence C. D’Souza will take place on Saturday, November 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Rosary Church in Santhekatte-Kallianpur, followed by burial in the diocesan priests' cemetery at Santhekatte. The body will be available for public viewing and final respects from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte.
