Diocese of Karwar Constitutes First Diocesan Service of Communion Team

Karwar, September 1, 2025: The Diocese of Karwar successfully constituted its first Diocesan Service of Communion (DSC) team during a two-day programme held on 30 and 31 August at the Karwar Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Shirvad. The event was guided by a dedicated resource team, including Fr. Franklin D’Souza, KRSC Spiritual Director, Bro. Savio Mascarenhas, NSC, Bro. Thomas Chinnappa, KRSC Secretary, Fr. Joachim Monteiro, Karwar DSC Spiritual Director, and Ms. Sunitha Paul.

Bishop Duming Dias of Karwar, inaugurated the programme. Participants engaged in reflective sessions on understanding personal calling, the significance of servant leadership, and the roles and responsibilities of service team members. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist, adoration, and intercessory prayers enriched the spiritual experience for all attendees.

On the second day, prayer, praise, and discernment were central. The introduction and selection of the DSC candidates were overseen by the discernment team, including Fr. Franklin D’Souza, Bro. Savio Mascarenhas, Bro. Thomas Chinnappa, and Fr. Joachim Monteiro. Following careful discernment, Fr. Franklin D’Souza announced the members selected for the Diocese of Karwar DSC for 2025–2028: Stephen Almeida as Coordinator, Grace Lobo as Secretary, and Maxim D’Souza, Lifard Rodrigues, Roshan Siddi, Sylvia Carvalho, and Stany D’Souza as team members.

Fr. Franklin D’Souza played a pivotal role in guiding the reconstitution process. The Diocese looks forward to the new team’s leadership, anticipating that they will serve with humility, unity, and dedication over their three-year term. Participants and organisers expressed gratitude to the resource team and all involved for making the event a spiritual and organisational success. Under the leadership of Bishop Duming Dias, the Diocese of Karwar, covering 10,277 square kilometres, continues to actively engage in spiritual formation, community service, and social initiatives.
