CRI Mangalore Unit Shines in Unity: A Day of Faith, Fellowship, and Celebration

Mangalore, February 4, 2025 – On February 2, 2025, the Conference of Religious India (CRI), Mangalore Unit, celebrated the World Day for Consecrated Life on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. The event, held at St. Aloysius University (Deemed to be) Campus, Mangalore, brought together 675 men and women religious from various congregations for a day of spiritual fervour.


The celebration began with a Eucharistic Mass presided over by Fr. Daniel Veigas OP, Episcopal Vicar for Religious of Mangalore, with 16 concelebrating priests. The sight of Religious processing into the hall with lighted candles symbolised their commitment to Christ.


Following the homily, the religious reconsecrated themselves with a Prayer of Consecration, renewing their vows. To mark the Jubilee Year, the Mass concluded with Pope Francis' special Jubilee Prayer for blessings on faith and mission.


A Day of Reflection and Celebration

The post-Mass program was led by Mrs. Anita Frank, Secretary of the Women’s Commission of Mangalore Diocese, as the Master of Ceremonies. Fr. Melvin Pinto, SJ, Rector of St. Aloysius University, emphasised unity, saying, “We are one family, and our diverse charisms weave the beautiful fabric of consecrated life.”

The celebration continued with games such as throwball and cricket, along with a free fair, energised by AICUF members from St. Aloysius University.


Bishop’s Inspiring Message

Although Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha could not attend, his pre-recorded message focused on the theme “Consecrated for Mission: Living the Gospel in a Changing World,” urging the consecrated to reach out with purpose.


Cultural Performances and Recognition

The day concluded with gratitude expressed by Sr. Cecilia Mendonsa, BS, who commended the CRI Executive Team for organizing such a meaningful event. Sr. Jacintha Saldanha, SAP, emphasised the enduring bond among the religious, saying, “We have come together as one family, united in our mission for the Lord.”


Special acknowledgements were given to Sr. Aileen Mathias, SCCG, Vice President, and Fr. Anisio Mota, SDB, CRI Secretary, for their contributions.

The event ended with heartfelt gratitude and a hymn dedicated to Mother Mary, leaving all participants united in faith and joy. The religious were thankful to Sr. Severine Menezes, SAP, President of the CRI Mangalore Unit, and the organizing team.
