Raipur, Chattisgarh, January 4, 2026: Six Bajrang Dal members accused of vandalising Christmas decorations at Raipur’s Magneto Mall were released on bail, an event that quickly turned into a controversial public display and sparked widespread criticism.
The case relates to an incident in which the group allegedly forced entry into the mall during the Christmas season and damaged festive installations, including Christmas trees and decorative ornaments placed in common areas. The act caused disruption within the mall and alarmed shoppers and staff, prompting police intervention and the arrest of the accused.
Following their release on bail, supporters gathered outside to welcome them with drums, garlands and celebratory music. Videos shared on social media showed slogans such as “Isai Missionary Murdabad” being raised, converting the bail release into what observers described as a show of intimidation rather than a routine legal process.
Civil society groups and minority organisations have condemned the celebration, warning that the public glorification of alleged acts of vandalism could encourage further intolerance and communal tension. They also stressed that bail does not imply innocence and called for accountability and restraint.
Police officials said investigations into the vandalism at Magneto Mall are ongoing and reiterated that legal proceedings will continue in accordance with the law.
