Shillong, Dec 23, 2025: Highlighting the growing role of digital media in evangelisation, more than 1,500 faithful gathered at Mary Help of Christians Cathedral on Saturday evening for Christmas with The Chosen, centred on 'The Chosen', an international television series that portrays the life of Jesus Christ through scenes from the Bible.
The Chief Guest, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of Shillong, underlined the significance of The Chosen as an effective digital missionary tool, particularly in reaching people through visual storytelling in the modern age. He delivered the inaugural address in Khasi.
Held under the aegis of the Parish Council, the event witnessed participation from several Christian choirs, including Presbyterian and other denominations, who rendered traditional and contemporary Christmas carols, reflecting harmony among different Christian communities. The local MLA and other political leaders were also present.
Organised by Mr. Elias Lyndoh in collaboration with the Parish Council of the Cathedral, the programme also featured an address by Mr. Ashish Nag, Country Manager of The Chosen India, who shared insights into the upcoming theatrical release of the Crucifixion episodes scheduled for early 2027.
The Chosen Encounter sessions were conducted by Mr. Ajin Joseph, Catholic Engagement Manager of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India. Following the screening of a clip depicting the Gospel episode of the Bleeding Woman, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh led a healing prayer, after which many participants testified to experiencing physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
The programme concluded with the hymn “All to Jesus I Surrender,” led by Mr. Ajin Joseph, inviting the faithful to entrust their lives to Christ and spiritually receive the Infant Jesus as the Church in Shillong prepares to celebrate Christmas.
The initiative was widely appreciated as a meaningful spiritual preparation for Christmas and a step forward in promoting faith through contemporary media.
